Funding Recipients Announced

Imagex Ltd. (imX), Palpable Productions, and Les Films Vision 4 inc.
have been awarded $33,000 each for feature film development funding.

The Cogeco Program Development Fund - Theatrical Feature Film Development Program, received 27 applications from production companies across Canada, in both English and French, for the annual development funding program.  This program supports the work of feature film production companies with a slate of at least 3 feature films in development over the next year.  Eligible companies must have an established feature film track record.

Each successful company receives interest-free development loans in the amount of $33,000 to be used as they deem appropriate, for the development of the projects submitted.  Fifty per cent of the loan is to be reimbursed on the first day of principal photography of any one of the projects submitted and the other 50% upon commencement of principal photography of a second production.  This program
was designed by the Cogeco Program Development Fund to provide feature film producers with flexible development opportunities to encourage top quality feature film scripts.

The three companies benefiting from this program this year have been recognized for their recent  track records of success in Canada's feature film industry.  These are companies who are actively contributing to Canada's film reputation worldwide and have been responsible for discovering some exciting new talents:  Imagex Ltd. [imX] (Margaret's Museum, Love and Death on Long Island, The Divine Ryans, New Waterford Girl); Palpable Productions (The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica, The Fishing Trip, The Five Senses), Les Films Vision 4 inc. (Que faisaient les femmes pendant que les hommes marchaient sur la lune?, Le dernier souffle, La Florida, Pouvoir intime, Anne Trister).  Projects were evaluated based on creative elements, talent involved, experience of the production company, development and business plans, other sources of support and production viability.

Funding is provided by the interest generated by a $5 million endowment contributed by COGECO inc. as well as recoupment from previous loans.  These funds are also used to provide loans to Canadian independent producers for the development of dramatic television series, MOW's and mini-series.  $500,000 is awarded annually under these development programs.

In addition to the development programs, the Cogeco Program Development Fund offers $1.5 million annually which is contributed by Cogeco Cable Inc., for equity investments for the production of the MOW's, mini-series and pilots for dramatic series.

The Cogeco Program Development Fund is administered by the Independent Production Fund.
